A statement was made at a conference held on Thursday with the theme of “Intellectual Property activities promote research and development and socio-economic growth”, gathering local scientists, businessmen and researchers.

Participants said that the number of companies register for industrial property rights accounts for about 25 percent of the operating companies in Vietnam.

The number of patents for inventions and utility solutions given to Vietnamese people only makes up more than ten percent of the patents issued by the relevant Vietnam’s authority, said the experts.
Besides, the infringement of intellectual property rights is popular and becomes increasingly complicated. Few Vietnamese companies have a department or staff in charge of the management of their intellectual assets.

Experts said that Vietnamese companies should increase the effectiveness of intellectual property activities to promote research and development activities and socio-economic growth.
To that aim, companies’ awareness of protection of intellectual property rights and competitiveness of Vietnamese companies should be enhanced, according to the experts.
