Seminars on the Convention and Treaties on copyright and related rights   |  

The Seminars on the Convention and Treaties on copyright and related rights were organized by the Copyright Office of Vietnam (COV), in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and with the assistance on the Japan Copyright Office (JCO), in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on August 12 and 14, 2008 respectively. The objectives of the Seminars are to upgrade the knowledge and exchange the enforcement experiences on copyright and related rights in the digital environment, including the Internet. The participants came from the management and enforcement agencies, the communication companies, the collective management organization and the mass medias. The moderators of the seminars were Dr.Vu Manh Chu, Director General of COV, Mr. Jorgen Blomqvist, Director of the Copyright Law Division of WIPO, Mr.Kentaro Sugiura, Assistant Officer of the Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Bureau of WIPO. Mr.Tran Chien Thang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism gave opening remarks of the seminars.

At the seminars, the participants discussed the following topics: Protection of Copyright and Related Rights in the Digital Environment in Viet Nam; The Flexibilities in the Copyright and Related Rights System, Exceptions and Limitations; An Overview and History of International Protection of Copyright and Related Rights; The Brussels Convention and the Status of Possible Treaty for the Protection of Broadcasting Organizations; WIPO Internet Treaties: Scope, Benefits and Experiences of Other Countries. All speakers and participants also discussed on the opportunities and challeges in the management and enforcement of copyright and related rights in the digital environment, including the Internet.
